After my wife died my eldest girl said “Dad this is just the place for you.” There’s always someone to see and there’s always something to do.  I have never regretted coming here.  I could only be happier if I had my wife with me.  I enjoy meeting folk …we have such great laughs.  Last weekend two ladies and I played table tennis then sat in the sunshine and had a real good laugh… it’s laughter all the time.  I just love it, I can’t say any more than that.

We enjoy the companionship and all the activities.  We’ve an art and craft group, a book reading group, we go walking, pub lunches and a monthly dining out group to various local restaurants.  The difficulty is deciding not what we’re going to do but what we won’t be doing.  We can play bowls, boules and we’ve just acquired a table tennis table, and not forgetting the snooker…

What better place could you live than this, the view and setting is beautiful.   It’s absolutely not an old person’s home, we’re not old.  It’s for people who have retired from work but not from life.  We really enjoy ourselves every day.  There’s something to do, someone to talk to and we are all like minded.  We really enjoy it here.

I enjoy the community, the friendliness, everyone is there if you need them for anything and it really is a fantastic spirit here and also of course the scenery.  It’s a very happy atmosphere.  We have the gym and the swimming pool which I enjoy so there really is plenty to do here and you never feel alone.

Just go for it and come and live because it’s such a wonderful place to live…that’s genuine, really,.  I certainly would never move from here at all.  It’s wonderful.

I think I like the comradeship, the friendliness of everybody and the fact that it is back to old fashioned values.  You don’t have to deal with things like vandalism and anti social behaviour everyone is like minded, everyone wants the same thing out of life and retirement.  Everybody wants to enjoy their retirement and be as active as they can for as long as they can.  Whatever you are interested in here you can do.  There’s always the opportunity and such a lot of variety during the year.  In fact my calendar is fuller now than it was when I was working.  So I don’t know how I found time to retire because I don’t think I’ve retired yet.  We moved here two years ago and I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it and we’ve made some really good friends,  I have some superb neighbours so I don’t think I can ask for more really.  Security is one of the most important things we came here for- a secure environment – but also a gated village which is quite private.  We like the whole concept of the village and I think this place keeps you young for longer and physically active for longer.  I enjoy the walks, I joined the craft group making home made cards, I go to the art class painting pictures.  When I worked I never had time to do anything like that.  I always said I would do water colours when I retired I’ve been doing them for two years and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Do the same as we did come and have a look, check it out, perhaps do a ‘Try before you Buy’  – stay for a few days and check out the local area because we are so close to the Lake District and just see how friendly a welcome you get when you come.

I like the companionship and the fact that if you want to be alone you can be alone and if you want companionship you’ve got that as well.  We’ve made some very good friends and we are local people.  We went to Asda to buy a loaf of bread and ended up buying an apartment.  We love it.

We think its brilliant.  We moved here because we lived in a small town in the East of England but we knew nobody.  We came here and within a matter of weeks you know so many more people and its friendly……it takes you in.  They all knew our names when we arrived.  We had more welcome cards here than we’ve ever had.  So it’s that sort of community spirit that we enjoy and we are relatively new.  No regrets whatsoever and of course it’s a new area for us, we’ve never lived in this part of England and there’s so much to see.
